June in for the G7!
It’s G7 Summit week so we need you to mobilise ASAP and with all you have. This is a chance to grab the attention of the world.
G7 Social Media Campaign
The G7 Summit begins this Friday and looking at who is at the table we are reminded that women are not yet where they should be. Women serve as Heads of State or Government in only 22 countries, and 119 countries have never had a woman leader. In the G7, there is only one female leader.
It has been estimated that advancing gender equality could add $12 trillion to the global economy. If we want to solve the climate emergency, we need leadership teams to be composed of 50% women and 50% men in both government and business. This is our ‘50:50 Vision’ and we are launching an owner-less campaign this week, to highlight the value women bring to the table.
Advancing Women advances Climate and Biodiversity.
What does owner-less mean? You can come on board and share this 50:50 Vision over the coming months in the run up to COP26! Let’s bring in the Women together!
We invite you to share our ready-made social posts to highlight the importance of Women in Leadership vis-à-vis the G7 leaders.
We are also demanding that COP26 must have equal representation of women not only on the UK Leadership team, but in all delegations. Plus, we want to see gender targets in the NDCs.
We've put together three posts for you to share across your social media channels from today:
1. Ever wondered why progress on #climate is so slow? We need women to speed it up. @G7 Leaders = 1 woman 6 men; @COP26 UK leadership team = 3 women 9 men. Sign @sheclimate’s Open Letter for women to equally co-lead #COP26: http://bit.ly/SCCOpenLetter #5050Vision
2. To solve the #ClimateCrisis, we need to bring in the women. @G7 Leaders = 1 woman 6 men; @COP26 UK leadership team = 3 women 9 men. Sign @sheclimate’s Open Letter for women to equally co-lead #COP26 👉 http://bit.ly/SCCOpenLetter #SHEChangesClimate #5050Vision
3. Want to have better Climate Policies? Bring in the Women. @G7 Leaders = 1 woman 6 men; @COP26 UK leadership team = 3 women 9 men. We need a #5050Vision. Sign @sheclimate’s Open Letter for 50% women at the top of UK #COP26 👉 http://bit.ly/SCCOpenLetter #SHEChangesClimate

We have agreed to open up the letter to men’s signatures. So please reach out to a man you would be proud to have sign the Open Letter.
We are inviting both men and women to sign our Open Letter for #5050Vision today, and use your voice to demand better for women, yourselves and the future of our planet. We welcome organisations to come on board as an official partner here, or make this your own campaign, promoting the message far and wide.
We are now leveraging SSC as a brand and campaign group. We are engaging on several media channels: panels, webinars, articles, podcasts and more.
Look out for us and/or create your own podcast/video about the campaign and be featured on our website and across social media!
To raise funds for the ongoing vital social media and PR for She Changes Climate to stay in the public eye and keep up messaging of 50:50 Vision, a wonderful supporter of our campaign, Pilar Karaman, has stepped forward to set up our crowdfunder offering leadership coaching in return for donations over £100. This can also be used as a gift for someone.
Please donate (every little helps!) and share widely.
We welcome volunteers to help us with social media posts and tracking actions and opportunities – everybody is welcome.
We're still waiting on Boris Johnson's government to do a better job at putting women to into leadership positions.
Since our talks with Alok, Peter and Anne-Marie:
We offered a long list of potential women who could be selected for the UK COP26 leadership team – no action.
We have been promised since January “watch this space” for high level female appointments – nothing.
Cleo Watson has not replied to further requests for information.
Internal contacts have not replied despite chasing.
We have tried several avenues from direct to indirect (B-Team, Women of the World etc) - and the net result is no change.
This is not good enough and we want to see the UK do better, given its leadership position as the host country.
We know what the problem is, and we know how to solve it. We need more women at the top - we need 50:50 Vision.
All the very best,
The SHEChangesClimate Team
